Pay and reward

Pay

Our graded progression ensures you're continually rewarded, with annual pay increases in line with sector standards. We are a living wage employer and our minimum pay rate exceeds the Voluntary Living Wage. 

For our Professors and senior professionals, there's an annual pay review that celebrates exceptional performance.

Recognition

We are committed to recognising and rewarding staff for exceptional performance and commitment through a selection of schemes.

Outstanding contribution awards

An annual scheme, where your salary will increase by one spine point. The awards recognise and encourage sustained excellence, commitment and professionalism. 

Recognising excellence awards

These take place twice a year and award one-off payments, or recognise achievements through team events, where employees have demonstrated valued contributions throughout a 12 month period. 

Staff Recognition Awards 

We recognise the University's Professional Services and Support staff who have demonstrated excellence in their work and contributed to the broader life of the University, against our strategic pillars . Similar awards exist for staff in learning and teaching roles.

Pension scheme

We offer two generous pension schemes – Universities Superannuation Scheme (USS) and the 澳门六合彩开奖记录2023 Group Pension Plan (UoBGPP). Both schemes include a provision for ill-health, a death in service lump sum payment and an annual pension. 

When you join, you’ll be notified in your contract which pension scheme you’re eligible for. 

Relocation and immigration assistance

We offer support packages available for new and existing staff to help with the cost of relocation and immigration while working here.

Work-life balance

Hybrid working

Hybrid working benefits your own work-life balance and enables us to create a thriving and caring University campus community, in which every staff member is able to work as successfully as possible in a safe and secure way. We have a hybrid working model for professional services staff who are able to carry out their work remotely.

Annual and additional leave

We offer generous holiday entitlements. In addition all full time staff are entitled to eight public holidays and an additional five discretionary days when the University is closed (pro rata for part time staff).

Family friendly workplace

For those with family/caring responsibilities, we have a package of family friendly policies which provide for flexible working, additional paid maternity and paternity leave, parental leave and leave for family emergencies.

As part of the University’s commitment to reduce our environmental impact and to reach Net Zero carbon emissions by 2040, we support Active Travel, encouraging travel by foot, bike or public transport wherever possible.

Onsite parking

If you’re driving to work, there is subsidised parking available on site which costs £1.40 a day for occasional users, with the option to buy monthly or annual permits. 

There are a range of initiatives available to you to help make getting to and from work easier as a member of staff.

Give as you earn

We are registered with the Charities Aid Foundation (CAF) who operate a Give As You Earn (GAYE) service, helping you to give back to the wider community at a lesser cost through salary sacrifice, meaning your chosen charity receives a larger donation.

Childcare

We have an on-site nursery − Westwood Nursery, which is Ofsted rated ‘Outstanding’. Parents whose children attend this nursery have the opportunity to join our salary exchange childcare scheme, nursery plus, to help alleviate childcare expenses.

Induction and probation

In your first few months with us, you’ll be given support to learn all that's required to do your job and understand how the University works. You’ll be trained on relevant systems and be invited to join an 'Introduction to the University' day.

Staff Development and Performance Review

Our annual review scheme takes place with your line manager and is at the heart of your professional development. You’ll meet throughout the year to identify areas for development and look at opportunities to fulfil those needs.

Learning opportunities

We offer plenty of development opportunities across a broad range of topics, from lunchtime briefing sessions to accredited programmes you’ll work on over time. There are opportunities to learn internally and from external experts. If you can’t find the learning you need on offer at the University, it may also be possible to attend courses outside the University.

Leaders and managers

We offer diverse leadership programs, including courses for new managers, leadership apprenticeships, coaching, and the People Management Curriculum for those managing teams or delivery. Additionally our Elevate programme for women of colour and our Aurora program support women aspiring to enhance their leadership skills.

Our Centre for Learning and Teaching supports our staff in the delivery of high quality learning and teaching and facilitate the career development of staff who teach and research. 

Technical Services development and progression

We support technicians to gain recognition through professional registration and external awards schemes. We also enable career progression opportunities for technicians through the provision of clear career pathways.
