Pre-employment

Provisional offer of employment

If you are successful at interview stage, the recruitment team will be in touch with a provisional offer of employment. Before we issue a provisional offer, we must have received at least one satisfactory employment reference. The provisional offer will be sent to you from a Recruitment Coordinator via our recruitment system. This Recruitment Coordinator will be your first point of contact throughout the onboarding process.

The offer email will outline initial details of the role including hours, salary and the terms and conditions related to the role. All offers of employment are provisional subject to satisfactory pre-employment checks. You'll need to formally accept this offer via email.

Onboarding checks

Right to work in the UK

All prospective employees are required to provide evidence of their right to work in the UK and any offer of employment is conditional on you being able to satisfy this requirement. We'll ask you to provide this evidence by:

  • providing the required documents in person (such as British/Irish passport or Irish passport card); or
  • using the Home Office Online Right to Work Checking Service (for non-British/Irish citizens).

When you're emailed your contract, you'll be given instructions on how to evidence your right to work with the University. Further information on right to work checks can be found  .

References

So that we can issue your contract to you as soon as possible it would be helpful if you could let your referees know we require a prompt response. If we don't receive your references it could impact your start date.

Qualifications

We'll ask you to provide proof of the qualifications required for the position you've applied for, as specified within the person specification. This can be in the form of original certificates or transcripts. If you require a Skilled Worker visa you'll also be asked for this as part of the visa application process.

Health questionnaire

We'll ask you to complete an occupational health questionnaire so that if you have a medical condition or need further support within your role, we can refer you to our occupational health provider for further assessment. We can then ensure that there is suitable support in place prior to your first day.

Background checks

Some of our roles involve working with children and/or adults and this will be made clear on the job advert and job description. In these circumstances we require you to complete a basic or enhanced/standard DBS check. You won't be able to start your new job until we've received satisfactory clearance. Read our guidance on applying for a DBS check.

Contract of employment

Once all checks have been received and are satisfactory, we will send you your contract of employment. This will include all terms and conditions related to your role. You will need to log into your account in order to sign this document and you can download a copy if required.
